Snow shoeing season is just upon us. Possibly days or months away. In the beginning of the season it's too early for snow shoes and with snow and ice on the mountains it's too dangerous to wear just hiking boots.
MICROspikes are a wonderful invention. They are stretchy and pull over your hiking boots. On the bottom they're metal spikes. They are excellent on part root, snow trails and icey conditions. Last year, I added them to my hiking pack and weighing in at just 408 g they are light enough to carry in your bag for the fall, winter and spring season. They also can be used on some groomed snow trails. There are many stores that carry MICROspikes. Don't be fooled and buy Yak Tracs. They don't have spikes and spikes dig into the ice keeping you safer than just hiking boots. It's worth the money. Also you must bring your hiking boots with you as they come in sizes s, m lg or xlg. I bought mine at MEC last year for about $55.00. The brand I'm recommending are: Kahtoola's. When on a winter trek I will have my snow shoes on but my spikes with me. It gives me options to carry on rather than turning back. Staying safe on the mountains is the smartest way to have a memorable journey and to get you home safely. Keep checking out My Snow Shoeing trails as I update last year's and bring you some new exciting burrful memories. Happy & safe trails...Lori aka Scaredy Cat.
