Munro & Denette Lakes
Port Coquitlam
Trail Key: ST~R~CC~DF~KF~V~RO
Length: 10 Km’s
Elevation: 860 meters
Pit Toilet: No
Dogs: Yes
You will find the trailhead to Munro Lake just past the gate to Minnekhada Regional Park on Quarry Road. On the road you will see a 2.5 Km's sign and then a small parking area for two cars on the right side.
The trail is to the left up an old logging road. At the top of the creek bed there’s a small trail going to the right, go here. The trail has few trail markers and climbs steeply almost the whole way. It is mostly surrounded by bushes and is quite skinny at times. There's a couple of blow down trees but foot areas have been kindly cut out for you to put your foot in as you step over. As you get higher you will see many trails within the trail, it's a bit confusing...but they all seem to link up to the main trail. There are two lookouts and it's best to hike this on a sunny day so you don't miss out on the rewarding views.
You will come to a branch in the trail at 700 metres. Make sure you go to the left to see the south view point that sits on a rocky outcrop then continue on to the lakes. It is a loop trail lookout so if you’re nervous about exposure then you can enter it from the right side rather then the left.
The next section of the trail is hilly with flat sections. It has a lot of blow down, some just scattered branches and some to step over and around on.
After a long time in here you come to a junction. Going left for 1.5 hrs takes you up to *Dennett Lake and going right for 15 minutes takes you to Munro Lake. We choose Munro…The first body of water you see is more like a marsh, you’ll have to do a little bush whacking to find Munro. Once she comes in view it’s really pretty and worth your efforts. Cross over to the island as you can see the other side and it’s worth the extra steps. Once finished you can decide if you want to hike up to Dennett or head down the way you came. Carefully navigate some of the steeper sections as you head back to your car. Happy & safe trails!
*It’s said you can also access Dennett Lake from Munro Lake but we never found the TH so best to see this from the first junction.
If you’re short of time and just want a good workout, you have the option to hike to the South Lookout, which is lovely!
