Bowen Lookout, Cypress Mountain
West Vancouver
Hiking Key: M~2~SB~OH~R~S~V~DF~KF~RO
Length: 3 Km’s
Elevation: 200 meters
Toilet: Yes-beginning
Dogs: Yes
I love this hike whether you are doing it as a snow shoe or a hike. It is just 3 km in/out trail but a good cardio, butt kicking workout. It starts off just past the ski run after the Olympic Sign and big building. The trail is well marked. Follow the trail along Yew Trail and the signs will say Bowen Lookout.
Cross the road and start up the switchbacks. There are a few that are steep but they are very short. Once at the top go left down the trail. The view will come into sight right away. You’re here a perfect spot to have your lunch. There are hummingbirds & Whiskey Jacks along the way and at the top.
You can choose to go the way you came or in the summer & early fall months you can turn it into a loop. During the winter and spring months it’s too dangerous as you come out onto a ski run.
If you choose to do it as a loop go back onto the main trail and turn left. Once at the sign post turn right and head down the trail which comes to a road. Walk along the road and soon a trail appears on your right, take it down as you step around tree roots and rocks. It comes out beside a big green water tower and onto a ski run. Follow the ski run down to the parking lot. I figure this adds another 1 km making this loop 4 Km's. It's also an alternate to coming down on those switchbacks but because it comes out onto the ski run it is not allowed during ski season. Happy & safe trails!
