Quarry Rock, Deep Cove
Hiking Key: M~2~TR~RH~V~DF~KF~ST~FT~RO
Length: 3.8 Km’s
Elevation: 100 meters
Toilets: Yes-beginning
Dogs: Yes
Quarry Rock, Grey Rock or Indian Arm Lookout; most commonly known as Quarry Rock (pronounced Cory) is a beautiful hike in Deep Cove. Park at the beach walk down the road and the entrance to the hike, on the left side, labeled BCMC and up a private driveway is the beginning of your hike. There is limited parking and strictly enforced. One must get here early.
The first part takes you uphill with lots of tree roots. I bring a pole with me for some parts going up and down. It has bridges, streams, mini waterfalls and some stairs. As you walk up the winding forest following the trail markers it feels like heaven. It is quite a busy trail.
When you get to the top you will go slightly right and end up on a big rock which looks out to Belcarra, Deep Cove & Indian Arm. This is a great spot to enjoy your lunch. Don't forget your camera! When you are finished seeing all there is to see and snapping lots of pictures you can head out and go up a trail on the right to another lookout. It’s not as nice as the first lookout. If you look to the right on this lookout there is another path on the right that takes you up to another lookout. Here is a quiet rock that has pretty views and may be a quieter place to eat your lunch. After you head down the way you came. I like to go to the beach after and if you look to your left you can see a small bare spot to where you once were sitting.
There is the option of carrying on behind the second lookout. There’s some stairs and this trail will take you all the way to Parkgate Malll on Mount Seymour Parkway and Mount Seymour. Best to do this hike with two cars. Happy & safe trails!
