Jorullo Bridge Hiking Tour with Guide

Length: 6.23 km's return

Hiking Checklist:
Backpack with essentials, poles, light clothing, closed toe shoes, insect repellent, camera, extra money for souvenirs. Included: Water & snack
Trail: I recently booked a trip with Canopy River Tour Company in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I went through the hotel as I felt it was safer but I would book directly through them now that I know what I am doing. I decided to go with a guide because hiking in Mexico was new to me. I ma not sure if you can see this bridge without the tour but for the amount I paid it was worth having a guide. I was paired up with Marco. It was just him and I on the trek. I was instantly impressed. He spoke English well and helped me practice my español. The company is well organized the bathrooms are clean. I have nothing negative to say about Canopy River.
The hike itself is easy but there is some elevation. We started up some funky rocky steps. Since we are in the middle of a pandemic Marco was masked up and carried a water and a snack for me. Once at the top of the stairs we came to Jorullo Bridge. Standing 150 metres high over the Cuale River in the Sierra Madre Occidental. It's the longest suspension bridge at 470 metre in length. Was I scared? Ya a little because the boards seemed need of repair but my guide assured me it was safe. This was me over thinking things since ATV's crossed it many times a day. In my defense, I have an intense fear of heights. Once over the bridge the trail continued along a dirt road. Marco was very informative pointing out names of trees, parrots squawking in the back ground, animals, a bat cave, termite nests, the mountains in the distance that looked like a woman's silhouette and finally the beautiful, El Salto Cascades. I sipped my water and soaked my feet. Marco was having no part of the "cold" water. I laughed since to me it was very warm. We are from two different places and in his defense it was winter in Puerto Vallarta (January 2022).
If you head to Mexico and you want to do a tour, I would highly recommend Canopy River. They were safe (during a pandemic) and were informative. They have many different tours. It seemed to me they all loved the company who employed them as they waved at each other in any given moment, they spent time informing me of what I was going to see and I could tell they liked what they did. All qualities for you to have a memorable experience. My safety was their number one priority. I highly recommend this company...They have many excursions-consider them first! Please don't forget to tip your guide. Tips are how these people survive.
