Mount Cheam, Chilliwack, BC
Trail Key: M~2~ST~KF~DF~PT
Length: 9.5 km’s
Elevation: 700 meters
Pit Toilet: Yes
It's a rough road up to the trail head. You will need a vehicle with good clearance or a 4x4 to get to the trail head.
Once at the parking lot you will cross over a log. Head down the road for awhile which soon turns into a trail. It's in the trees and you'll come out into a meadow with a rushing creek and a wooden bridge to cross. Just around the corner is Spoon Lake. You'll understand the name once you climb higher. It's a welcoming dip after or soothing feet soak after your hike.
The trail snakes its way up into the trees. Soon it comes out in the open and continues up. Keep looking around as the views are amazing. Sometimes the trail is tree covered, drenched in alpine flowers and a little exposed but nothing overly uncomfortable. Not long and the trail comes to the saddle. To your right is Lady Peak standing tall and a beautiful lookout over looking Jones Lake.
It is here where you can decide if you want to go to Cheam Peak. If you choose to go, the trail now zig zags its way up on an exposed area for about another 1 km. it's quite steep. If you choose to stay in the saddle you will still have a beautiful hike. Happy & safe trails.
Footnote: Mount Waddington's in Chilliwack will do guided tours up to Cheam Peak. The day includes guides, drive up to the TH and lunch. It was very well organized and I would highly recommend it.
