Lower Falls Trail-East Canyon Parking Lot: Golden Ears Provincial Park
Trail Key:
Easy-moderate, hills, view, dog friendly (leashed), kid friendly, creek crossings, one steep section
Elevation: 100 meters/5 km's
Dogs: Yes; leashed
Pit Toilet: yes-trail start/end & Lower Falls
Hiking Checklist:
Backpack, poles, 10-essentials, tell someone
Directions: Make your way to Maple Ridge and Golden Ears Provincial Park. Once there follow the road as far as you can go. Most of it is paved but the last section to Gold Creek Parking is gravel with some pot holes, cross the bridge and find parking.
Trail: We started on the Lower Falls trail. Walk past the sign post and along the flat trail. You'll be following the river mostly and able to take a side trail to the East beach. A perfect rest stop or lunch spot. Once finished keep walking along past a beautiful tree and funky rock balancing. When you near the falls you'll climb a little hill. Once you have seen the falls head up the trail behind the bench for a look at the Upper Falls. Stay back as the falls should be respected. Many people have lost their lives by venturing down on the slippery rocks. Wen you've seen the Upper Falls go back a few steps where you'll see a trial with red flagging tape and yellow BC Parks signs, follow this trail up. Once at the top keep going tot he main trail where there's a sign post saying, Lower Falls. If you go left you can carry on to the East West connector bridge for a look (about 45 minutes) or going left takes you back to the East Canyon Parking Lot where you started earlier. That's the great ting about Golden Ears, you decide and you can make your own route within the trails. Happy & safe hiking.
