Directions: Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island, in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington. Cross the border. Drive to Blaine, take exit 230 and then WA-20 W.
Goose Rock Summit
After you find parking and pay head toward the bridge. Go right down the steps and right again. Follow the trail along. Come to a branch take the summit trail on the right and follow it up. The word summit seems to keep some away. Follow this blueberry lined trail up seeing old growth as it climbs steadily. Come to a T. Left takes you to the summit. Right back to the parking lot. We went to the summit. It’s not far. Follow this last hilly part and an Arbutus greets you to the summit. Go left for a view with power lines or a clear view by going right. Follow the trail out the way you came in.
Goose Rock Perimeter Trail
Once at the bottom follow the trail down as it skirts The bald. At times your near the shoreline with steep trails leading to the beach. Ignore those and keep going. You’ll climb up to a lookout and a narrow trail then back in the trees and down. Arbutus line the trail. Follow the switchback trail down cross a short boardwalk. Don’t forget to marvel in the beautiful big bedrock as you make your way down. Keep following the trail as you pass a way up to the summit. Soon you come To a T. Go right. As you come to the next branch you can hear the highway. Once at the T go left. Next T go right. The path leads to a cool over pass which you’ll walk under as the busy highway is above. Once past here take the trail on the right to the beach. Last T Go left to the beach or right back to parking lot. The beach is worth the trek. once done head back and up the walk-way, past the stone wall and up tot he parking lot. Happy & safe trails.
