Abby Grind aka Glenn Ryder Trail: Abbotsford
Moderate, hills, steep, view, dog friendly, kid friendly
Elevation: 320 meters
Length: 2 km's return (can carry onto Taggert Peak for an additional 7 K return)
Dogs: Yes; leashed There are no leashed signs but there are trail runners.
Pit Toilet: no
Hiking Checklist:
Backpack, poles, MICROspikes (on icy/snowy days), 10-essentials, tell someone
Directions: Make your way to the gun club in Abby (4161 Lakemount Rd). You cross a bridge and will see the gun club and the parking lot is on your right. There is no trail marker but it's obvious the trail start.
Trail: Starts steep as the trail switchbacks at first then it's a snaky trail. it can be muddy and slippery. In the beginning you hear the gun range but quickly the noise fades away. These sections I write about are mostly short. The trail carries on mostly hilly and flat sections. It turned into some quick short switch backs then it flat. Soon you come to a 1/4 marker, keep going as the trail gets real steep just before the 1/2 marker. This was my summit today as the trail was muddy and ice covered. I will be back to finish this one. You can also take the Mackay Creek Trail which walks along the dyke, it is real pretty. Happy & safe trails.
