This is a series of tunnels that in the early 1900's were part of the Kettle Valley Rail. It's a historic site keeping out history alive. The photography is stunning. You can carry on after the tunnels and complete a 5 K loop where once cattle roamed through some old growth forest with some stunning views.
Start your hike by walking through the tunnels. Once you have seen all the tunnels carry on along the flat oldrailway road toward Hope's graveyard. About 750 m after the last tunnel you will see a yellow gate and about 30 m after that is a sign post for the Hope Nicole-Valley Cattle Loop Trail. Go right...The trail snakes along with some real tall old growth. After some time there's a long switchback that climbs gradually. The trail begins to snake again. It's shady and real pretty. The trail thins a bit as it climbs up to a lookout and bench. Carry along a ridge. If you’re afraid of heights this trail might make you nervous. I found going this way was better for me and my Vertigo. Minutes after, another beautiful lookout. Follow the path to another lookout with a bench. The trail wiggles it’s way along roots and old growth tall beauties. The trail levels out and soon you come to two benches, old growth and an old sign. The trail begins its descent. You come to a Y and a sign post. Go right to parking lot. 200 m later another SP and a steep switchback descent. It flattens and another sign post. Go right for the parking lot. The trail once again descends down a wider path as you approach the parking lot. *There are no signs in between the beginning and the end of this trail*
This is one of my fave little hikes. It's pretty and not many people were on the trail when the tunnels were fairly busy. Happy & safe trails.
