Fern deer park
Trail: Follow the unmarked trail up and after a few hundred feet Shoesmith East trail appears. Stay to the right. Follow the trail as it snakes its way along. Pass a couple of nature mossy covered benches and an beaten bridge. The trail is marked with a horse sign post. There are horses on this trail. Although there’s no signs; leashing your dogs because it is an equestrian trail, it’s a good idea so to not spook the horses.
Follow the trail along with some ups and downs. Lots of funky mushrooms and moss. After you pass another log bench and before the trail starts to descend you’ll come to a branch. If you go left you’ll do a loop and return to where you started. If you go right it takes you to Mike Lake Corral. We decided on the loop
Go left at this branch (it's marked with a horse shoe) and follow the trail down and you’ll come to a T. Go left to return to your car. Soon the trail to Shoesmith Loop appears, stay on the main trail (right) and follow it back to where you came in. As you’re walking down you’ll notice on your right the SS West Trail Head start. We decided to save that for another day.
