Start your hike to the Backside of The Chief; Sea to Summit Trail. It’s at the end of the parking lot. It starts well marked with #1: Sea to Sky Summit Trail and goes to 316...but that's not the top!
If you’ve done The Chief do you remember those horrible stairs? Well you're going up some them but not to worry as soon the trail branches off. That is the worst part as it's busy, most hikers are heading up to The Chief Peaks 1, 2 or 3.
Go right you are now on Upper Shannon Falls Trail. It has steep parts that have roots & rocks with some easy flat sections. As you walk along you’ll come to an open part and if you look up you’ll likely see the Gondola go past you.
Shortly after there is one chain assist to help you up a section and not long after Shannon Falls will be beside you cascading down. A little later another rope assist that brings you up onto a rocky outcrop that's stunning.
Now the trail then goes back into the trees again with some steep ups and downs. Not soon after you come to a ‘T’ in the road. Left takes you 0.8 Km's up 'Wrinkle Rock Trail' which is similar to what you have been hiking with a couple of rope assists & another 162 m elevation gain but shorter to the top (the number in your trail markers will read 395 when your done). Going right takes you along 'Shannon Basin Loop' is an easier walk in the forest along a wide logging road for 3.2 Km's to the top.
There are many trails at the top, a restaurant, suspension bridge and 360 degrees of stunning views. When you're satisfied take the Gondola back down and the shuttle bus to the long term parking.
