The ferry ride is 17 minutes to Bowen Island. It is best to park your car at Horseshoe Bay and walk across.
When you get to Snug Cove you walk to the crossing and go right by the Library and you will see the sign to Crippen Park, go left and follow the trail to the road, go right and walk up the road a bit & the trails picks up again at the left. Walking on the trail you'll eventually come to Mt. Gardner Road. Go left and up a short hill and right on the road for a short walk and left at Hikers Trail Road (big sign & 490 on post), then REDRUM Road (that's Stephen King's MURDER spelt backwards). I am calling it that because it's a murderous hill! Continue uphill till you reach Skid Trail and go left. This trail is a mess. Looks like a big blow out so really watch for trail markers.
There is a trail marker on a log that is tiny and if you go right you will get lost so make sure you go left at the log with the trail marker. You will come to another hilly road...pot holes, bumpy, rocky road.Go to the very top of the road and take the trail, do not take Handloggers Trail(the first trail on your right). The proper TH will take you along the north side of Mount Gardner (the south side has no views). You will climb quite a bit and then the trail forks with a sign that says north peak. It climbs some more and you will reach a steep rocky section and will pull yourself up with a rope (be careful making sure it is well maintained). I don't think dogs will be able to go this route due to the rope assist. I suggest coming down the same way you came. It will be hard on your knees when you're coming down those roads. Happy & safe trails!
