White Rock, BC
So you don't have enough money for a gym membership, don't have time for a six-hour hike and don't feel safe trail walking on your own...well I have a solution for you. I re-found Oxford St in White Rock. At a grade of 23% and 1 km long, it makes for a great workout. Your lungs & heart will love it. Your knees, not so much!
I forgot what a great cardio workout it is. It's wide open, so quite safe on your own in the day light hours. You can customize your own workout for what works with your schedule. You can do it in the rain or sun. With the incredible ocean view and sea air you'll want to zip up and down a few times. Time yourself and watch yourself get better with each visit.
I parked my car at the top on a side street and went down and up 4 times. My heart was pumping with joy. I got to meet lots of friendly faces who also were taking, The Oxford Challenge, along with me. Some were old and some were young but all had smiling faces and cheerful, Good Mornings...
If White Rock is too far for you then look for a local hill and make your own challenge. It's something you can do with a friend who's two legged or four and it's something you can do on your own. It will clear your mind, help keep those pounds off, and keep you in shape.
Happy & safe trails...
